'Closer together' is a research about improving the social wellbeing of the inhabitants of Hillesluis while densifying the area.

'Closer together' is a research about improving the social wellbeing of the inhabitants of Hillesluis while densifying the area. The world is getter more and more individualistic; we live in bigger houses with less people and spent our lives with people of our own bubble. But on the other hand, the growing need to live in the city, forces us to live in another way. The improving density, decreases the quality of life.

Hillesluis is one of the ‘Focuswijken’ of Rotterdam. This means that the social issues are highly problematic, which resulted in incorporating the neighborhood in the ‘Nationaal Programma Rotterdam Zuid’. Besides, Rotterdam South needs to become denser (8.500 dwellings) in order to house new residents. To tackle these developments, there is tried to solve both by connecting them. Social wellbeing as goal, densification as tool. With this, not only the dwellings become physical closer to each other, but also the residents in a social way.
