‘Lak’ is about creating abstract art with nail polish. There is no story behind the black dots and stripes, but I like to work with the texture of the polish and the minimalism of the abstract forms. ‘Lak’ refers to the Dutch word for polish, but also to ‘Lak hebben aan’. This phrase is an expression for ‘I don’t care’. And therefore, why put polish on your nails, if you can make paintings of it?
